New Lynn rail trench tender marks the approaching start of ONTRACK's largest project since its inception

15 August 2007

ONTRACK has signalled a start is approaching on the largest individual project since responsibility for New Zealand's rail infrastructure returned to public sector ownership in 2004.

A tender will be accepted in the near future for the construction of a rail trench at New Lynn, West Auckland, clearing the way for a start on enabling work later this year.

The total value of the project is predicted to be over $100m including works carried out by Waitakere City Council (WCC) and ONTRACK. The main contract's resources will be provided by a design-build consortium, managed by ONTRACK.

The work is scheduled for completion in 2009.

In December 2006 the Government announced that it would fund grade separation at New Lynn as part of its $600 million upgrade of the Auckland rail network known as Project DART.

Following an initial notification in December 2006, around 20 initial registrations of interest were received and reviewed. The parties have been progressively short-listed to three design-build consortia with the final party to be selected in the next couple of months.
